ISO Speed Settings for Still Photos

Set the ISO speed (prototype sensor'southward sensitivity to low-cal) to adapt the ambience low-cal level. In Scene Intelligent Auto way, ISO speed is set automatically.

For details on ISO speed in movie recording, run across ISO Speed in Movie Recording.

  1. Set the ISO speed.

    • With an prototype displayed on the screen, set past turning the Quick control dial 2 dial.
    • ISO speed can be set within ISO 100–102400 in 1/3-stop increments.
    • Select [AUTO] to fix the ISO speed automatically.
    • For details on the ISO Auto range, see ISO speed (recommended exposure index) in still photo shooting.

ISO speed guide

  • Depression ISO speeds reduce epitome noise only may increment the chance of camera/discipline shake or reduce the area in focus (shallower depth of field), in some shooting conditions.
  • High ISO speeds enable depression-light shooting, a larger expanse in focus (deeper depth of field), and longer flash range but may increase image noise.

Caution

  • Epitome racket (dots of light or banding) and irregular colors may increment and apparent resolution may decrease at H (equivalent to ISO 204800), because this is an expanded ISO speed.
  • Because L (equivalent to ISO fifty) is an expanded ISO speed setting, the dynamic range volition be somewhat narrower compared to the standard setting.
  • Setting [Shooting: ] to [Enable] or [Enhanced] () will prevent y'all from selecting L (equivalent to ISO 50), ISO 100/125/160, or H (equivalent to ISO 204800).
  • When shooting with a loftier ISO speed, loftier temperature, long exposure, or multiple exposure, epitome dissonance (graininess, dots of light, banding, etc.), irregular colors, or color shift may go noticeable.
  • When shooting in conditions that produce an extreme amount of noise, such as a combination of high ISO speed, high temperature, and long exposure, images may not exist recorded properly.
  • If yous use a high ISO speed and flash to shoot a shut subject field, overexposure may result.

ISO Speed Range When Set Manually

You tin gear up the manual ISO speed setting range (minimum and maximum limits). Yous can set the minimum limit inside L (equivalent to ISO 50) to ISO 102400, and the maximum limit within ISO 100 to H (equivalent to ISO 204800).

  1. Select [Shooting: ShootingISO speed settings].

  2. Select [ISO speed range].

  3. Set [Minimum].

  4. Set [Maximum].

  5. Select [OK].

ISO Speed Range Used with ISO Auto

You can set the automatic ISO speed range for ISO Auto within ISO 100–102400. The minimum tin be set within ISO 100–51200 and the maximum within ISO 200–102400, in 1-end increments.

  1. Select [Auto range].

  2. Set [Minimum].

  3. Set [Maximum].

  4. Select [OK].

Note

  • The [Minimum] and [Maximum] settings will also office as the minimum and maximum speeds for ISO speed safety shift ().

Minimum Shutter Speed for ISO Machine

To prevent shutter speeds from being set as well depression automatically, you can set the minimum shutter speed for ISO Auto.

This is effective in Program AE or Aperture-priority AE fashion when shooting subjects in motion with a wide-angle lens, or when using a telephoto lens. It can also reduce camera milk shake and blurred subjects.

  1. Select [Min. shutter spd.].

  2. Set the desired minimum shutter speed.

    Auto

    Manual

Caution

  • If a correct exposure cannot exist obtained with the maximum ISO speed limit gear up with [Motorcar range], a shutter speed slower than the [Min. shutter spd.] will be ready to obtain the standard exposure.
  • This function volition not be practical to flash photography.

Note

  • When [Car (Standard)] is set, the minimum shutter speed volition be the reciprocal of the lens focal length. A single step from [Slower] to [Faster] is equivalent to a single stop of the shutter speed.
